The Hotel de France is conveniently situated on the main road through centre of  Peyrat le Chateau, next to the Office du Tourisme, and all amenities shops, bank, post office and parking are close by in the town square.

Parts of the Hotel date from the 11th century, and for some time, it is reputed, served as the town prison. Other parts of the building were added over time, the last part being around the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. We believe that the hotel ceased lettings towards the end of the 20th century, having suffered the economic consequence of both changing tourism habits and rural populations migrating to the cities, in common with other businesses in the area. However, the restaurant and bar continued to trade, and were updated by the previous owners. The bedrooms, however, were exactly as they would have been in the 1950s and were not suitable for today’s visitors. Consequently we have remodelled the first floor of the hotel to create nine good size modern, comfortable, en-suite rooms, including two family rooms, one with two bedrooms and a bathroom, all have contemporary decor and are equipped to a high standard.

The Hotel De France has a comfortable and informal bar, serving; draught lagers and locally produced bitter, a selection of international bottled beers, an extensive wine list, spirits, soft drinks, fruit juices and specialty coffees  and teas. Bar snacks are available from midday to 10pm
